Ser Nocturna is a New York-based independent film production company founded by Latinx filmmakers and producing partners Arielle Friedman and Camila Grimaldi.
Dedicated to spirited collaboration in every part of the filmmaking process, Ser Nocturna spotlights underrepresented voices through humanistic and boundary-pushing storytelling. Ser Nocturna’s narrative short films have been official selections at festivals including Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, Tribeca Film Festival, Woodstock Film Festival, and Cleveland International Film Festival, among others. Ser Nocturna is currently developing its upcoming slate of feature films and television projects.

Arielle Friedman
Co-Founder
Arielle Friedman (she/her) is a first generation Colombian-American filmmaker and actor with experience both in front of and behind the camera. Arielle spent five years as a professional dancer at the world-renowned ballet company BalletMet in Columbus, Ohio before enrolling at Columbia University to pursue a degree in Film & Media Studies. Under her production banner, Arielle has produced multiple award-winning narrative short films that have gone on to screen at Sundance, Tribeca, NewFest, and Frameline, among others. The most recent film she produced, “Unholy,” is having its worldwide premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. The short film “Kasbi” which Arielle produced premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival and was also a selection for the 2024 Frameline Film Festival, winning the Colin Higgins Grant. She has also produced music videos for clients such as Atlantic Records, Verve Forecast, and Mischief Management. She is currently in development for multiple long form projects, including a TV show based on her experience as a professional ballerina.
Camila Grimaldi
Co-Founder
Camila Grimaldi is an Argentinean-American writer-director and producer. Under the banner Ser Nocturna, she has directed music videos for clients like Atlantic Records and Switch Hit Records, and produced others for clients including Universal Music Group, Verve Music Group, Capitol Records, and Mischief Management. Her short film Breadwinner is slated for distribution this year and is being developed into a feature film. Her first short film Lejana Tierra Mía screened at the New Faces New Voices Film Festival in 2020. She has produced multiple award-winning shorts which have screened at SXSW, Woodstock Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, and Montclair Film Festival, among others. Camila is also a 2023 Film Independent Producing Lab Fellow.
Nicole Lynn Cohen
Director of Development
Nicole Lynn Cohen is a screenwriter and producer who cut her teeth in film and television development at multiple independent production companies, beginning at Bona Fide Productions under Oscar-winning producers Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa (Little Miss Sunshine, Nebraska). She then became an Executive Assistant at SpectreVision where she worked under founders Elijah Wood and Daniel Noah (Mandy, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night) and was promoted to Coordinator a year later. Prior to joining Ser Nocturna, Nicole was a Coordinator at Felix Culpa for producers Riley Keough, Gina Gammell, and Sacha Ben Harroche (War Pony, Under the Bridge). Her favorite artistic medium is the sentence.
